Livin la vida russkiy

World's Most Beautiful Man Aleksei Vorobyov has gone all Ricky Martin on us.In musical terms that is.

No idea what Bam Bam is about, but to be honest he could be singing about wicker conservatory furniture for all I care. It's just a nice catchy tune with a...charming video.Lyosha isn't the squeaky clean perfect Russian boy he was in New Russian Kalinka anymore. No,he's got chavvy friends, gets off with girls in nightclub toilets and he breaks things. He'd fit in so well in Gillingham,I want to organise a visa for him.

Don't you want me to do those things to you?

Oh Aleksei,you're so provocative *blushes*.

Quite excited about this new song from Mr Vorobyov...

Actually there's lots of musical things I'm excited about at the minute, mostly Eurovision based. If only I could find the time to write about them...Although while we're on the subject, how fab is this Eurovision attempt from Alexander Panayotov?

Russia's final is next Sunday,though I can't say I'll be watching this time around.No BiS,no Dima B,no Dima K,no Aleksei...Doesn't really seem worth it to me :)

Poor Lyosha

Some wench has upset lovely Aleksei Vorobyov in his latest video. He's all moody and sorrowful bless him.Forget Me is a good song actually,it's a bit different to Aleksei's normal style, and a bit closer to Dima B's I think. And the video?Mmmmm....Sodding bookshelves!

By the way,it seems Mr V isn't going to be in the Russian National Final on Saturday after all. From what I can gather,he's accepting a job on some American film and has to be in LA at the weekend to sign contracts and things. This all happened at the last minute meaning that there won't be anyone nice to look at in ESC this year.Oh well, let's look at this rather nice picture of him and his Christmas tree...

Yum.

Top 50- 24: Give me what I want, give me what I need

Aleksei Vorobyov- Desire/Etoi Nochyu

This is so sexy.So damn sexy.Well,Aleksei's version anyway- I wasn't keen on Darin's from the Austrian/German Idol performance I saw a while back. And of course, everything in Russian is a pleasure for the ears. You could sing the Medway phone book in Russian and it would be sexy.*Goes off for a lie down*.

Top 50- 28: One day you will be mine and that's the way I feel

Aleksei Vorobyov- New Russian Kalinka

No wait,a man that hot deserves 2 pictures.

Note the scarves in both of them.I'm a big fan of men in scarves.

Mmmmmmm....As well as being the fittest man alive (yes,it's official),Lyosha is a great pop singer. The original message of the New Russian Kalinka that we liked so much- ie,give Russian music a chance- has been lost in the new version (the New New Russian Kalinka?) and it just isn't as good when it's about a girl.Doesn't make much sense.I still think the original would have been great at ESC- bet Europe's grandmas would have loved him being the nice wholesome Russian boy that he is (I know my nan would have anyway),every other woman in Europe would have loved him,the gayers would have loved him...Oh! And NRK is a million times better than Believe of course.

He's got what I need...I believe it too!

He's a provocative little so-and-so is Aleksei Vorobyov. This is Desire/Etoi Nochyu, originally sung by some chap called Darin apparantly.Aleksei's version is miles better though, and this performance contains the most impressive jump I've seen since Ruslan jumped on his balls at Eurovision.

I do feel cheated though- this programme's called Star Striptease.Clearly stripteases are a lot more subdued in Russia.

Don't play these funny games with me

Since when did my man of the moment,Aleksei Vorobyov change his New Russian Kalinka? We liked the "there's more to Russian music than old folk songs" approach, but now it's all changed and is about some woman. Here's the lovely video that goes with it.The last half a minute is cheesier than very mature Parmeggiano Reggiano, but it's Aleksei,so who cares? It's almost more than a girl can take on a Monday afternoon.

Find a brand new sound and spread it all around

To alleviate my sulking about the butchering of Hasta La Vista,I thought I'd post my other favourite song from Russia's national final. We mentioned the New Russian Kalinka on Sounds of Europe last night- we really like it because the point of it is that there's more to Russian music than folk songs like Kalinka.Which is the point we're trying to make on Sounds of Europe too.Of course we also like it because it's just so all-round fabulous and manic. And also maybe a bit because Aleksei Vorobyov is hotter than the sun :)
